Gidon Kremer, Yulianna Avdeeva and Kremerata Baltica in Chopin and His Europe Festival

Gidon Kremer comes to Warsaw, Poland, to give two concerts in Chopin and His Europe Festival. On Friday, August 17, Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica will be joined by the friend and soloist Yulianna Avdeeva to present the program  „Schubert meets Silvestrov ”.

The program  „Schubert meets Silvestrov” was first premiered earlier this year (2018) during a concert in Cēsis, Latvia. As maestro Kremer reflects:

“The idea was born in a recent conversation between me and Valentin Silvestrov – a prominent Ukrainian composer who celebrated his 80th birthday last year. I played a lot of his music, feeling that Silvestrov’s scores are masterpieces of tonality in our world very much oriented towards post “twelve tone” and electronic music complexity. (…) The meeting of the 2 romantics is now meant to happen on the “virtual bridges” of two scores and I do hope it will be a refreshing experience for us players, as well as for our audiences. Why? Because it seems Schubert and Silvestrov speak the same language of beauty despite the fact that Schubert lived centuries ago and Valentin is well and still very creative.”

The program “Schubert meets Silvestrov” is a creative yet sensual combination of the following works: Franz Schubert’s String Quartet No.12 (Quartet-Satz) in C minor D703 , Valentin Silvestrov’s Five pieces for violin and piano and Franz Schubert’s Sonatina for violin and piano No.2 in A minor, D.385, transcribed for violin and a string orchestra by Michail Tsinman.

The second part of the concert will be dedicated to the one and only Frederic Chopin himself. Audience will be provided with an opportunity to hear Chopin’s “Mazurka in A minor, Op. 17 No. 4” and “Nocturne in E major, Op. 62 No. 2  in arrangement for solo violin and string orchestra by Victor Kissine, followed by Chopin’s “Piano concerto in E minor”, Op. 11 with  Yulianna Avdeeva  as soloist.

On Sunday, August 19, Gidon Kremer, Yulianna Avdeeva and Giedre Dirvanauskaite would give a chamber music concert featuring the music of Chopin, Weinberg and Shostakovich.
