Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica bring the Music of the Baltics to Musee d’Orsay

During the spring of 2018, the Musée d’Orsay goes to the Baltic States and brings an exhibition dedicated to Symbolism in the art of the Baltic countries. It is a mutual cooperation project that will feature art, music and culture exchange between France and the 3 Baltic States – Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia. A project dedicated to the centenaries of the Baltic countries.

During the Soviet occupation, song (and music) became the language and symbol of resistance and freedom in all 3 of the Baltics States. Similarly did art, literature and culture as such. As a result, towards the end of the 19th century, Baltic composers were questioning and “reinventing” their identity. In a specially selected program, Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica will put their national identities and roots in spotlight on the stage of Musée d’Orsay and will bring the Music of the Baltics to Paris.

On May 22 Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica will be joined by Andrei Pushkarev (vibraphone),  Aiste Baliunyte (harp),  Kaspars Putniņš (conductor), and Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir to perform “Symphōnē” by Lepo Sumera (EE), “Dainele” op. 11 No. 2 , Prelude op. 7 No. 2 , Prelude op. 12 No. 1 by Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (LT), “Danses sacrée et profane” by Claude Debussy (FR), ““Fratres” and “Estonian Lullaby” by Arvo Pärt (EE), “Flowering Jasmin” by Georgs Pelēcis (LV) and “The Fruit of Silence” by Pēteris Vasks (LV).
